This sandwich bread is fresh and tastes 50 times better than storebought!

Servings: 24
Cook Time: 30min
Rise Time: 3 hours

Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 5 cups bread flour
  • Optional: shredded cheddar cheese, italian herbs and seasoning mix, sea salt

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, add yeast, water, and a pinch of sugar. Let rest for 10 minutes until foaming to ensure the yeast is active. If it doesn’t foam, you’ll have to get fresh yeast.
  2. Once the yeast foams, add rest of sugar, salt, and oil.
  3. Start steadily mixing in flour, about a half cup at a time until dough starts to solidify more. It should be sticky but not overly sticky. Add a bit more flour if needed to get the right consistency.
  4. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes on a floured surface, really working into the dough
  5. Grease a large bowl with oil and put the dough inside, rolling it to coat the outside of the dough. Cover with clean wrap or towel and let sit on the counter for 1 and a half hours. It’ll rise a lot so get a big bowl!
  6. After time is up, press down dough firmly to release air. Divide into two and shape into logs.
  7. Grease sides of two 9×5 bread pans and place dough in pans. Cover again and let sit for 45 minutes
  8. Preheat oven to 350F.
  9. OPTIONAL: Before setting in oven, top with cheddar cheese and herbs
  10. Bake bread for 30-32 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Sprinkle a bit of sea salt on top after it has been taken out of the oven.
  12. Store in container for 3 days at room temp or 5 days in fridge

The BEST Homemade Bread

I had never made bread before trying this recipe, and it was 100% worth it. It’s so much cleaner tasting that store bought bread that just tastes like it has lots of fillers in it. Not to mention that this made our house smell AMAZING.
